About the Manitoba Ostomy Program

The Manitoba Ostomy Program (MOP) is a unique program that provides nursing support and ostomy supply coverage for all Manitoba residents living with ostomies, wounds or fistulae that require pouching. The Manitoba Ostomy Program is staffed by baccalaureate-prepared nurses who pursue additional education to become a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence care (NSWOC). The Manitoba Ostomy Program works in collaboration with the NSWOC nurses from the Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital, and together, provide support for over 3400 persons registered in the program. 

NSWOC services in Manitoba include:

  • Pre-operative patient teaching

  • Pre-operative ostomy site marking

  • Post-operative patient teaching

  • Ongoing stoma care support via:

    • Ostomy clinic stoma assessments (by appointment only)

    • Rural clinic opportunities throughout the year

    • Telehealth appointments booked as needed

    • Telephone support for ongoing support and advice

    • Virtual appointments via Zoom, Facetime, Microsoft Teams
